Same airframe, different cameras

On paper the two drones fly identically: 49 minutes rated flight time, 21 m/s top speed, 1,219 g, 25 km FCC transmission range and omnidirectional obstacle sensing. Both record 4K at 30 fps and neither has internal storage. Everything that separates them sits in the payload.

The 4T pairs a 1/1.3-inch visible-light sensor with a thermal camera and high-sensitivity modes for low light. The 4E drops thermal for a larger 4/3-inch sensor with a mechanical shutter and RAW photo support, which is what mapping and photogrammetry workflows want.

Budget for the whole kit

The aircraft is only part of the cost. Spare batteries, the controller, charging equipment, storage, care coverage and mission accessories add up, so compare full kits. Check current regional prices for both, since this page lists none.

Rated flight time, speed and range are manufacturer maximums under controlled conditions and fall with wind, temperature and payload. Registration, Remote ID and visual-line-of-sight rules vary by country, so check local requirements before buying either one.

DJI Matrice 4T

Strengths

  • Thermal camera for heat detection
  • High ISO range for low light
  • 49-minute rated flight time
  • Omnidirectional obstacle sensing

Drawbacks

  • No RAW photos
  • Smaller 1/1.3-inch visible-light sensor than the 4E
  • No internal storage

DJI Matrice 4E

Strengths

  • Larger 4/3-inch sensor
  • Mechanical shutter for mapping
  • RAW photo support
  • 49-minute rated flight time

Drawbacks

  • No thermal camera
  • Lower ISO range than the 4T
  • No internal storage

Buy the 4T for thermal work, the 4E for mapping

Choose the Matrice 4T if your work involves heat or darkness: public safety, search and rescue, infrastructure inspection, firefighting support or low-light situational awareness. Its thermal camera and high-ISO imaging cover more of those jobs. Choose the Matrice 4E if you mostly map and survey, where its larger 4/3-inch sensor, mechanical shutter and RAW photos count for more.

The airframe is the same. Both are rated for 49 minutes and 21 m/s, weigh 1,219 g, list 25 km FCC transmission and have omnidirectional obstacle sensing with the same wind-resistance rating. So flight performance should not decide this. The sensor package should.

My read: the 4T covers a wider range of enterprise missions, which is why it gets the nod here. A team that does photogrammetry and detailed visible-light imagery all day is better off with the 4E.

Every review, comparison and news story on the site is written by him from manufacturer specification sheets, FCC and EU certification filings, aviation-authority rules and dated press releases, with the source linked. Unless a page is labelled hands-on, the analysis is documentary; when an aircraft is in his hands, the page says so and carries his own photographs and flight notes.
