DJI Mini 5 Pro vs DJI Air 3S

Buy the Air 3S if you want the second camera. Its 70 mm medium tele (1/1.3-inch, 48 MP) gives framing options the Mini 5 Pro's single wide camera can't, and both of its cameras shoot 4K/120fps with 10-bit D-Log M. Buy the Mini 5 Pro…

Same main sensor, one extra camera

Both drones use a 1-inch, 50 MP main camera that shoots 4K/120fps, so single-camera quality is comparable on paper. The difference is the Air 3S's second camera: a 1/1.3-inch, 48 MP medium tele at 70 mm, which also records 4K/120fps with 10-bit D-Log M and HLG. The Air 3S also lists vertical 2.7K recording at 1512×2688 up to 60fps for social clips.

Weight decides the paperwork

With the standard battery the Mini 5 Pro weighs 249.9 g and is C0 in the EU. The Intelligent Flight Battery Plus pushes it over 250 g into C1, so the 52-minute figure comes with a registration trade-off. Rules still vary by country, even under 250 g. The 724 g Air 3S needs registration in most jurisdictions. Our registration-by-weight guide covers the thresholds.

Size follows weight: the Mini folds to 1014 cm³ against the Air 3S's 1922 cm³. Both list the same 12 m/s (Level 6) wind resistance, though the lighter Mini may be pushed around more in gusts despite the matching spec.

Transmission, sensing and batteries

Both links are rated at 20 km (FCC) with a 1080p/60fps live view. The Mini 5 Pro's O4+ adds Wi-Fi 6 downloads up to 100 MB/s, against 30 MB/s over Wi-Fi 5 on the Air 3S. Both have omnidirectional sensing with forward LiDAR (0.5 to 25 m at night) and downward infrared sensors.

Batteries are not shared. The Mini 5 Pro uses 2S packs (7 V, 2788 or 4680 mAh); the Air 3S uses a 4S pack (14.6 V, 4276 mAh).

DJI Mini 5 Pro

Strengths

  • 249.9 g with the standard battery (EU C0)
  • 1-inch, 50 MP sensor
  • Up to 52 minutes with the Plus battery
  • O4+ with Wi-Fi 6 downloads up to 100 MB/s
  • Forward LiDAR for night obstacle sensing up to 25 m

Drawbacks

  • Single camera, no tele lens
  • Plus battery pushes it over 250 g into C1
  • 130 Mbps bitrate

DJI Air 3S

Strengths

  • 70 mm medium tele alongside the 1-inch main camera
  • Both cameras shoot 4K/120fps with 10-bit D-Log M and HLG
  • Side obstacle sensing listed at 30 m
  • 21 m/s top speed (19 m/s in the EU)
  • Vertical 2.7K recording up to 60fps

Drawbacks

  • 724 g, so registration applies in most places
  • Folded volume nearly double the Mini's
  • O4 with Wi-Fi 5 downloads up to 30 MB/s
  • 45-minute rated flight time

Pick the Air 3S if you want the 70 mm lens

Buy the Air 3S if you want the second camera. Its 70 mm medium tele (1/1.3-inch, 48 MP) gives framing options the Mini 5 Pro's single wide camera can't, and both of its cameras shoot 4K/120fps with 10-bit D-Log M.

Buy the Mini 5 Pro if weight and size come first. It weighs 249.9 g with the standard battery, packs the same 1-inch, 50 MP main sensor, flies up to 52 minutes with the Plus battery and costs $899 against $999.

My read: for travel, the Mini 5 Pro is the more sensible drone. The Air 3S earns its extra weight only if you will actually use the tele lens.
