The 100 MP main camera and 6K video

Both use a 4/3 Hasselblad main sensor in a three-camera layout. The Mavic 4 Pro raises the main camera from 20 MP to 100 MP, the tele camera from 12 MP to 50 MP and the main aperture from f/2.8 to f/2.0, and records 6K/60fps against 5.1K/50fps. Megapixels alone do not guarantee better dynamic range, but for cropping and large prints the jump is real.

For high-bitrate video, the two take different routes. The Mavic 3 Pro Cine records Apple ProRes. The Mavic 4 Pro 512GB Creator Combo records H.264 ALL-I at up to 1,200 Mbps.

LiDAR and a faster top speed

Both have omnidirectional vision sensing. The Mavic 4 Pro adds a forward LiDAR and a downward infrared sensor, which should make it more dependable in low light. It is also faster, at 25 m/s against 21 m/s. Thin wires and glass remain hard cases for any sensing system.

Batteries and range

The Mavic 4 Pro's 6,654 mAh battery gives a listed 51 minutes; the Mavic 3 Pro's 5,000 mAh pack gives 43. The batteries use different form factors and are not interchangeable, so a switch means buying new spares. On transmission, O4+ lists 30 km FCC against 15 km for O3+, though visual-line-of-sight rules cap what you can legally use. For the full Mavic 4 Pro spec sheet, see our Mavic 4 Pro specs analysis.

New buyers should get the Mavic 4 Pro; owners can wait

If you are buying a professional Mavic now, get the Mavic 4 Pro. For $700 more than the Mavic 3 Pro it brings a 100 MP main camera, 6K/60fps video, a 51-minute flight time, double the transmission range and forward LiDAR for low-light obstacle sensing.

The Mavic 3 Pro is still a capable three-camera drone, and the cheaper choice for enthusiasts. It is also lighter at 958 g against 1,063 g and folds smaller. If you already own one and are happy with its footage for casual or mid-level professional work, the upgrade is not urgent, especially since the batteries do not carry over.
