DJI Neo 3 Battery Goes to Three Cells (18.9 Wh): Neo 2 Packs Won’t Fit, and It Flies on Video
The DJI Neo 3 uses a new three-cell battery, and it will not share packs with the Neo 2. A label photo leaked on 7 October 2026 shows an 1,800 mAh, 10.5 V, 18.9 Wh battery, against the Neo 2’s two-cell 11.5 Wh pack. The same day, a 91-second video showed the Neo 3 flying for the first time, controlled from DJI’s new RC Mini.
DJI still has not announced the drone. Here is what the two leaks add to what was already known, and what they mean if you own a Neo 2.
Quick answer: Neo 3 battery vs Neo 2
| DJI Neo 3 (leaked label) | DJI Neo 2 | |
|---|---|---|
| Cells | 3 in series | 2 |
| Capacity | 1,800 mAh | 1,606 mAh |
| Voltage | 10.5 V nominal, 12.9 V max | 7.16 V |
| Energy | 18.9 Wh | 11.5 Wh (original Neo: 10.5 Wh) |
| Contacts | 7 | 5 |
| Cross-compatible? | No | No |
That is about 64% more stored energy than a Neo 2 battery. The drone is heavier too: 192.7 g in China’s drone registry, against 151 g for a bare Neo 2 or 160 g with its transceiver. No leak has given a flight time, so we are not going to guess one; more energy and more weight can cancel out.
What the battery leak shows
DroneXL writer Jasper Ellens posted photos of the pack on X on 7 October, and a reader replied with a close-up of the label. The cell code starts with “3INP6”, the usual marking for three cells in series. The Neo 3 pack has seven contacts and the Neo 2 pack five, so neither fits the other drone.
For Neo 2 owners the practical point is simple: spare batteries, charging hubs and any battery-based accessories you own will not carry over. The leaked Neo 3 bundle comes with three batteries and its own two-battery hub, as the unboxing video showed on 6 October.
At 18.9 Wh the pack is far below the 100 Wh airline limit, so travel rules for carrying spares do not change.
Propellers now come off with screws
Ellens also described how the propellers are changed: you unscrew a diamond-shaped part from the bottom of the guard, then unscrew the motor. On the original Neo the guard unclips without a tool and each propeller is held by one screw. Whether a Neo 3 propeller swap really takes several screws per arm, as a reader asked, has not been answered.
The first flight video
Separately, Ellens posted a 91-second clip from an Indonesian owner who filmed it to answer claims that earlier Neo 3 footage was AI-generated. The Neo 3 takes off from a residential street, hovers a few feet up along a garden wall and lands. It is filmed on a phone from behind the pilot, so it shows nothing of the drone’s own camera footage.
- RC Mini pairing on its own screen: the remote walks the pilot through pairing without a phone, and shows the live camera view in flight.
- A scroll wheel: the back edge of the RC Mini has a ribbed wheel. Its function is not shown; on DJI’s larger remotes a similar wheel tilts the gimbal.
- Front controls: two short sticks, a return-to-home/pause button, an orange shutter button and four battery LEDs.
- Size: placed on top of a Neo 2, the Neo 3 overhangs on every side, with taller guards and thicker arms.
When will it launch?
There is still no date. Ellens said he had seen no sales date and, asked to guess, said about six weeks. DJI’s small drones often surface early in Malaysia and Indonesia, which fits where the video came from. Our running estimate stays at October to November 2026; see DJI Neo 3 release date.
Can you buy it in the US?
Not on current information. The RC Mini has held an FCC grant since 19 December 2025, three days before the FCC added foreign-made drones to its Covered List, but the Neo 3 aircraft has no grant. Our US drone ban checker tracks which DJI models can still be sold.

Frequently asked questions
Is the DJI Neo 3 battery compatible with the Neo 2?
No. The leaked Neo 3 battery has three cells and seven contacts; the Neo 2 battery has two cells and five contacts. Neither fits the other drone.
What is the DJI Neo 3 battery capacity?
The leaked label shows 1,800 mAh at 10.5 V nominal, or 18.9 Wh. The Neo 2 battery is 1,606 mAh and 11.5 Wh.
What is the DJI Neo 3 flight time?
Not known. No leak has stated it. The battery stores about 64% more energy than the Neo 2’s, but the drone is also heavier.
Has the DJI Neo 3 been seen flying?
Yes. A 91-second video posted on 7 October 2026 shows it taking off, hovering and landing, controlled with the DJI RC Mini.
When is the DJI Neo 3 release date?
DJI has not announced one. Leaks point to October or November 2026.
